In that case, we could imagine that the central star (presumably holding the disk together) could clear out a region near the center, and light passing through that hole could account for the brightening. I wrote a simple computer program (QuickBASIC on an IBM PC!) to calculate the light curve in this model, and we were able to get an extremely good fit to the data.

But technology has advanced quite a bit since my student years. Nowadays, we don’t need to puzzle out the meaning of a light curve and come up with an elaborate story involving tilted disks; we can just take pictures of the thing.

Richard Dawkins calls for arrest of Pope Benedict XVI

Via: digg.com: Richard Dawkins: I will arrest Pope Benedict XVI

Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church. The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.

Interessant. Etant des personnes qui semblent agir dans le meme sens que leurs paroles, j’ai bien hate de voir si le pape va annuler sa visite…. A suivre.

P.S. Decidement, beaucoup trop de choses sur la religion dans une journee 😉
