Polaris, aka the North Star, is getting brighter | EarthSky.org

Ce n’est pas le fait que Polaris est une etoile variable qui m’a surpris, mais plutot ceci:

"Also, because of the wobbling motion of the Earth’s axis (precession), Polaris will not always be a pole star. It will be closest to the sky’s north pole on March 24, 2100 AD. As time passes, it will then be farther and farther from the celestial pole. In about 12,000 years, our descendants will have the beautiful blue-white star Vega as their Polaris."

Wow, Vega… ca c’est une etoile polaire digne de ce nom! 🙂

A New Thermodynamics Theory of the Origin of Life | Simons Foundation

"From the standpoint of physics, there is one essential difference between living things and inanimate clumps of carbon atoms: The former tend to be much better at capturing energy from their environment and dissipating that energy as heat."

"This could mean that under certain conditions, matter inexorably acquires the key physical attribute associated with life."

RTFA, il est tres bien ecrit.

There are no black holes, says Stephen Hawking

Un autre titre sensationnaliste, mais l’article est un peu mieux.

"He says that the idea of an event horizon, from which light cannot escape, is flawed. He suggests that instead light rays attempting to rush away from the black hole’s core will be held as though stuck on a treadmill and that they can slowly shrink by spewing out radiation."
